Decision · From the verified Record
My supplement tastes different. Is it a new formula or a bad batch?
THE SHORT ANSWER
Check the label first. If the amounts on your tub's panel differ from an earlier dated label, the formula changed; if they match, the label does not explain the difference. A label can show a formula change. It cannot show a batch problem, which only a test of that tub could. Of 515 products verified to the label, 22 have a dated change or two labels published at once, and Cellucor C4 Original was published with two labels at the same time.
FormulaSignal reads labels. It does not test what is inside a tub.

Work it out from the tub.
Read the panel on the tub you have.Note each dosed line, the serving size in grams and the servings per container.
Compare it with a dated label.Use the formula check for the product, or a photo of your last tub.
Check the flavor and where you bought it.A retailer can sell a different label from the brand's own store, under the same name.
If every line matches, it is not the label.Keep the lot number and best-by date and ask the brand. Those identify the batch; the label cannot.
Method
How this page was made.
What FormulaSignal did
- Answered from the 515 records that are Signal Verified today: labels read twice, dated and sourced.
- Counted a change only between two dated labels of the same product, flavor, size and sales channel.
- Computed every figure on this page from those records when the page was served, so it moves when the Record does.
What it did not do
- No look inside a tub. A label says what a product declares. A record does not establish what a particular container holds.
- No taste test and no lab test. Every figure is what a label or a brand's own page declares, not what was measured in a tub.
- No score and no winner. Differences are measured and shown; nothing is rated.
- No payment and no preview. No brand paid to appear, and none saw this page before it was published.
- No health advice. Whether an ingredient or an amount suits you is a question for a clinician.
Questions
More questions
Can a label tell me if I got a bad batch?
No. A label says what a product declares. Whether one tub matches it is a question for a lab test of that tub, which FormulaSignal does not do.
Why would two tubs of the same product have different labels?
Because a brand can publish more than one label at once. When observed on October 20, 2026, Cellucor published two C4 Original labels side by side. cellucor.com/products/c4-original showed the 5th Gen panel (200 mg caffeine, 2 g CarnoSyn beta-alanine). A second Cellucor listing, cellucor.com/products/c4-original-old, offered 30 and 60 servings "from 150mg of caffeine" under GTINs whose filed and retail-photographed panels declare 150 mg caffeine, 1.6 g CarnoSyn beta-alanine, 1 g creatine nitrate and 1 g citrulline malate.
What should I write down before contacting a brand?
The product name, flavor, size, the lot number and best-by date printed on the tub, where you bought it, and a photo of the Supplement Facts panel.
